The stone ranges in hue from green, gold and lavender to earthy browns and rust reds, often with a mottled appearance. Agate was used for medicinal purposes in ancient Greek and Egyptian civilizations, and its use for healing amulets and ornamentation dates back to the biblical city of Babylon.
