**These are made of brass and then plated with a layer of copper before being finished with a layer of matte black.

-Over time, the matte black finish will rub off revealing the copper underneath.

-If desired, this can be prevented by applying a clear lacquer to the piece to preserve the finish.

-Alternatively, this process can also be accelerated by using a cloth to vigorously buff the pieces. You can buff a specific area or all over to achieve the look you like. Finish with a clear lacquer to preserve the look.
